My primary field of research has been the development, characterisation and release of cereal and legume cultivars for tolerance and/or resistance to root-lesion nematodes (RLN; Pratylenchus thornei, P. neglectus). I have identified novel resistances to RLN in landrace wheats and related species and have had significant roles in developing and characterising mapping populations to identify QTLs for both resistance and tolerance. My current research aims to deliver germplasm that is resistant and tolerant to RLN to Australian plant breeders and to improve our understanding of the genetic control of resistance to RLN in wheat, barley, chickpeas, mungbeans and field pea.
