This study was to identify culturable endophytes as a source of potential biocontrol agents to protect apple trees from Neonectria ditissima infection. Culturable endophytes with inhibition effect on radial growth of N. ditissima were selected based on the result of in vitro dual culture assays. The antagonistic endophytes were then identified using PCR sequencing and the potential pathogens were excluded from further study. After that, functional assays such as siderophore production assay were conducted for investigating the mechanism of biocontrol properties of the selected antagonistic endophytes.
